The entire city asks itself that question. Last night a woman was saved from attempted rape by an unknown man in a mask and cape. Who is he? Everybody
wonders, but nobody knows. Nobody but Viktor.
Viktor Stenmark is entirely unimportant. He is pretty sure that most kids in school don’t even know his name. Or that he exists. In secret he dreams about being brave enough to dare stand on a stage and do magic tricks in front of an audience, but in real life he isn’t even brave enough to sign up for the school’s cabaret. Of course he can’t be on the same stage as Lina Davidsson, the most beautiful girl in the world! Viktor can imagine the roar of laugher that would
shake the auditorium. His life would be over before he even approached the stage.
What Viktor doesn’t know is that a series of rather embarrassing events soon will lead to his not feeling so unimportant anymore. The newspapers will write about the fact that a superhero has come to town. The news stations will want to film him. Everybody will whisper and talk about the masked man who is said to be a mix of Batman, Superman and the Phantom, and who saves people in need. Only Viktor will know the truth behind these rumors. Or, maybe not! Maybe Lina Davidsson also suspects what is really going on?
Mårten Sandén’s humorous page-turner is filled with strong feelings, embarrassing situations to giggle at, and misunderstandings that grow to enormous proportions. It is easy to identify with Viktor’s longing to be someone important, and his fear of not being able to live up to the expectations when he finally becomes that person. Who doesn’t want to be somebody’s hero, at least for a little while?
