It is almost time for middle school, and Linnéa’s stomach is full of butterflies.
Soon it will be summer vacation and after the break Linnéa will start sixth grade. She gets a funny feeling in her stomach when she thinks about it. In sixth grade you are no longer an elementary school kid. You change buildings and you start middle school. The teacher has told them they will have much more homework and more responsibility, but Linnéa is sure it will be mostly wonderful. Middle school is a lot like freedom. You get to do things you weren’t allowed to do earlier: now she gets to skip the after school program and go home alone after school. Linnéa’s parents have finally agreed.
But after a visit to middle school the excitement ends abruptly. Everything seems scary and when the girls in class start checking out the middle school boys, Linnéa feels small and geeky. That her best friend Vanessa starts going out with Tor in sixth grade only makes it worse. Linnéa doesn’t want to go along with Vanessa’s silly ideas; hang out at the mall or skip school. But at the same time she doesn’t want to lose her best friend. What should she do? In the end, she might have to choose.
Just like in Far From Cool and Far From Love, it is all about friendship and betrayal. Ingrid Olsson finds her way straight into her reader’s heart.
