A big sister, a little sister, and a neighbor boy. An aunt, her girlfriend, and a bakery. Adventure, strong feelings, and a magical shark tooth – all this, you will find in Seagull Bay.
Moa and Margot are sisters. Every holiday they get to visit Seagull Bay. This is where Aunt My and Carrie live. They have a small bakery, and when they have a lot of work, Moa and Margot get to help with delivery. In each book the siblings get an assignment to deliver something from the bakery, and this bring them out on adventures that sometimes get both exciting and a little dangerous. And then the magical shark tooth may come in handy.
Anna Höglund and Eva Susso have created a whole new world for us to enter into. The Magical Shark Tooth is the first part in a series.
Seagull Bay is a small town by the ocean, where the waves roar and the gulls scream. Aunt My and Carrie have a wind torn house right by the water, with towers and pinnacles. Here they run a small, friendly bakery.
In the neighbor house lives Jan-Torvald, a boy their age, who both sisters like a little more than average. Eva Susso captures incisively the strong emotions often experienced between siblings, and Anna Höglund further widens the story with her sensitive illustrations.
The relationship between Aunt My and Carrie exists in the background of the story, as well as in the illustrations, but it is not referred to in the text. And the fact that the children are adopted from India is evident in the illustrations only. It is not mentioned in the text, nor brought up as a theme. And in this way, pictures and words are equally important and entirely dependent on one another – just as it should be.
